Launching into an Authorpreneur
Every profession has its terminology. The word launch is used in many industries and can also be found in our dog world. My dogs have launched themselves off of docks into the water in the sport of dog dock diving. And, now, I found myself having ‘launched’ myself into the space of Authorpreneurship.
To end National Small Business Week here in the U.S., my first book, Making A Point: A Business Field Companion, was officially launched at a book signing event Saturday evening. Friends and supporters of small business and the book gathered for light refreshments and conversation around becoming an entrepreneur. The sunny, springtime weather helped spread the celebratory feeling.
Small business owners often begin with an idea. Then the process of making that idea into a reality often takes time, patience, and great support from advisors, family, friends, and colleagues. Its success depends on many people, many factors, and a vision of a pathway that leads to the ultimate goal. It truly takes a community.
Launching into Authorpreneurship has taken years. The idea, putting thought to pen, seeking a Book Agent, writing proposals to Publishers, engaging Editors, finding Peers to read the early manuscript and critique it, rewriting words and entire chapters, proofreading, more editing, more proofreading. At times, you’d wonder ‘will this ever come to completion’? And then it does, and you find yourself being able to call yourself, not just a writer, but an actual Author.
Like any specific achievement, it takes work. Small business ownership can be a labor of love, of long hours, finding patience when you don’t think you have any more, and a testament to your willpower to succeed. And then one day, one evening, its reality makes all the effort worthwhile.
Authorpreneurship requires readers. The readers need to provide Reviews on sites such as Goodreads, or Amazon. Reviews fuel the initial launch. Well, favorable reviews that is! Hearing feedback like ‘this book is chock full of information’ helps validate the years spent coming to fruition. And, such words, simply make you smile.
Whatever your particular business goal is, find the community, the circle of trust advisors, that will help launch you into a place of success. For that one moment, your excitement and sense of accomplishment truly propels you forward. Then, time to focus on marketing, marketing, and, oh yes, marketing.
Thank you to all the readers and the entire Making A Point Community that have supported this book launch and this Authorpreneur’s dream. Links on where to purchase the book can be found on our website under Making A Point Book.
Be well.
