Why Can’t We Be Friends? We Can!
This past weekend, I had the privilege of attending my first public book signing at Barnes & Noble in Victor, NY. Three women authors, of varying genres, presented a united front.
One of the main reasons I began writing this Blog nearly five years ago, was to share helpful information about running a business in a kinder, gentler, more comedic, manner. I had visited the business section of a bookstore and was overwhelmed by the business book titles. Most were written by men, most included some type of very competitive or even bullying language in the title. ‘Annihilate’, ‘Richer than you’, ‘Obliterate the Competition’, are a few I recall. Frankly, it upset me.
My Blog has become my signature piece now and inspired my book released in March. Women do a great job of supporting one another, in my experience, and doing a book signing with two other female authors showed we do not need to annihilate the competition to succeed. I learned some great new ‘tricks of the trade’ and enjoyed sharing experiences as authors. I suspect we all did.
It is refreshing to be part of an industry where competitors are friends and colleagues and truly uplift one another. We are, in fact, friends. Thank you to all who came and met us and bought our books!
Be well.
