The Many Ways to Open a Door
Our household includes three (3) dogs. Each one reacts differently to closed doors and has his own approach to opening said door. This can be compared to how business owners strategize for opening doors to new business.
First, we have the aggressive approach. Push the door open. Use all appendages available to make your entrance. Make no mistake it will be loud and you will be heard. Nothing says confidence more than breaking down a barrier and announcing you have arrived. People will invariably listen as they likely are either so shocked at the noise or want to hear what is so important that you entered with all your might.
Second, we have the stealth approach. Quietly try the lock, perhaps the hand or paw under the door works best in dislodging it. If that does not work, stand at the door and stare through the window. Put on your sad face, the face that says I have something to say if you will just let me inside. It is a quiet, yet, at times, effective approach to allow you to cross that threshold and garner interest from a prospect.
And thirdly, we have the ‘do you hear me now?’ approach. Stand at the door, whine, low noises work best to get attention. Make sure you are heard but not too loud. Wait until someone opens the door for you. Never touch it and, perhaps, you will be noticed, or perhaps not. It is a nonaggressive approach to getting attention. It should not provoke any ill feelings and likely that door will only open if the person on the other side wants to open it and wants to hear why you out there. It is the least invasive approach but you might be standing there for quite a long time.
Selling your product or service comes down to your style. Do not try and be something you are not. Find the style and approach that complements your brand and your personality. That is the approach that will likely get you most noticed.
Be well.
