The Business of Being You
Whether you work for a large organization or you are a sole proprietor, the business of being you is your brand. Pairing that brand with your products or services is the art of marketing.
Recently, we have come across a few situations where a business owner or a professional were not in keeping with their firm image. Does it matter you may wonder? Surely, it must.
Back in our earlier days, dressing in a suit was a must for the office. That included everything from an ironed top to polished shoes. Going to work was a fashion statement. Which fashion you best represented was up to you. However, if it weren’t in keeping with company expectations, colleagues or clients would surely let you know!
Today’s business world is much more casual overall than thirty (30) years ago. However, many industries still expect a more formal business attire ensemble. If your chosen industry is that one, it may be best to stay in the lane, it will engender less controversial conversation. If you are in a more casual or creative environment, consider yourself lucky and the less sloppy you dress, the better a client’s perception of you may be.
As we finally exit winter in the top half of the country, give your wardrobe a review. Casual is great but always look professional, however your industry defines that. Direct the conversation to your services and products, you are there to sell those, an important aspect to always remember at a meeting.
Be well.
