Surround Yourself with Confidence
As a small business owner, surround yourself with better people and expertise. Confidence will come across with this winning combination to your customer.
We have been working with a small group of contractors during our relocation out of town. It is interesting to note that one of the primary five is what we call the savant. He seems to know everything and anything about plumbing and electrical. While the others have their own specialty, he shines through with some of the best ideas and impressive work. Success is in the details and he has those down.
The project manager among the group has the vision and administrative willingness to run the projects. But he clearly defers to the savant for the more delicate and challenging pieces. And, the best part, is that he doesn’t shy away from it. He knows it, he owns it, and he is proud of building a team where one has specific knowledge and talent. In fact, he markets it.
In this real life scenario, it is about building a team with the wherewithal to complete various tasks, some much more complicated than others. Recognizing that the leader does not always need to be the savant, is a leadership quality, in and of itself. So, examine your current approach. Lead with confidence that your whole team can get the job done.
Remember, not everyone wants to lead, some just want to work. And that is okay. Without the hard workers, the visionary would not be able to see the project through to the end.
Be well.
